About Me
My name is Preston Ching. I am currently a civil servant at Singapore’s National Research Foundation (Prime Minister’s Office).
I am passionate about the interface between economics and artificial intelligence. Both fields generate profound ripples in our society and stand to leverage synergies with increasing communication. AI applied to macroeconomics brings us closer to theoretically-sound and well-predictive models for policy-makers. Demands for tractability in econometrics push AI models towards greater interpretability and algorithmic fairness. Along with cross-discipline insights (from philosophy, sociology and psychology), the Econ x AI domain serves to better inform and implement policies for tackling inequality and climate change amongst others. I am also a huge fan of hiking and traveling. I have meandered through the world’s driest desert (Atacama), scaled the ice-capped “top of Europe” (Jungfraujoch) and dipped into the world’s lowest water body (Dead Sea). My forms of escapism are reading and music. I love fiddling around with my Fender Stratocaster and occasionally air drumming, to my neighbours’ dismay.
